I love this place and my family and I have gone there for years. I ALWAYS get the same thing which includes a Rocklin Roll. My son and I went just a few days ago and upon entering I knew there had to have been new owners as the place has been redone and is very nice and welcoming however I was very disappointed in my most favorite roll….The Rocklin roll. It immediately tasted different and it was much smaller. It had less rice and less crab in the middle. The rice was quite smooth as if it mushed together upon rolling. The flavor was off and I couldn’t place it. I am absolutely devastated that this has happened. I mentioned the taste change to the waiter and he was very kind, but what is he going to do? We go there a lot and I’m wondering if I will return as that taste and size does not draw me back. my heart breaks. The boat change years and years ago was hard enough, but when you don’t enjoy your roll for that cost then it’s time to move on. It has been quite some time since my last visit to this sushi restaurant, a place I once held in high regard. Unfortunately, returning today revealed a disheartening decline in quality. Walking in, the initial impression was positive, as the main dining area appeared remarkably clean, tidy, and well-maintained. The staff members were attentive and welcoming, delivering the same high level of good service that I remembered from previous years. However, the positive experience quickly shifted the moment I opened the menu. The pages were noticeably dirty, marred by dried-up food bits left behind by previous guests. This lack of attention to basic sanitation for high-touch items was immediately off-putting and set a negative tone for the rest of the meal. The food itself confirmed that the restaurant's standards have severely slipped. I ordered the Dancing Unagi roll and the Dragon roll, both of which features fried shrimp as a core component. Sadly, both dishes suffered from identical, major execution flaws. The fried shrimp had a distinctly off-putting taste, strongly suggesting that the kitchen used old, uncleaned frying oil that should have been discarded long ago. To make matters worse, the rolls were incredibly greasy, lacking the light, crisp texture expected of quality tempura. Across both rolls, the general freshness of all components sat at a disappointing C-tier level, entirely lacking the bright, clean flavors essential for exceptional sushi. The Bento Box meals are delicious, well organized and gives you additional meal sizes to accommodate your appetite and price range.
